A Tale of Two.

Korey L. Ward

In some form or another Korey L. Ward has always been a writer. His earliest memory of the love for the written word came from middle school in the form of little poems the teacher had the class write. He found it challenging, but yet, reliving all at once. Coming from a broken home, with a father that was never around, and a mother’s ever increasing love for the bottle, Korey needed away to let out his emotions, and he found that outlet writing those little poems.

Later, once reaching high school, Korey found another outlet for his ever fluctuating emotions in the form of music, (rock and metal music to be exact). With bands such as Metallica, Dream Theater, and guitarists Steve Vai and Joe Satriani, blaring in his brain, he picked up the guitar and starting writing music of his own.

After high school, the love for music reached all new heights, When Korey and a few friends decided to form a rock band. Once again, his love for writing would come into play once again as Korey was called upon to write the lyrics to the original songs they created. Their band known as Fates Tragedy, steadily grew in popularity as they played gigs around the KY, OH, and WV Tri-State area. But sadly, shortly after their first self-titled album as recorded the band broke up dew to creative differences and tensions growing with in the band.

During the band years Korey got married and had a beautiful little girl, named Zoey, but the marriage wouldn’t last and he soon fell upon financial hardships to the point he couldn’t afford cable, so he would read book to Zoey for entertainment. They would laugh and have fun as he acted out the parts. Then one day somebody told Korey that he should write his own stories. Korey, being modest, shrugged off the notion, thinking that only super smart people where writers. But that seed was planted and it grew with the ideas that kept popping into his head.

Korey then sat down to write a story for his daughter, Zoey, who was 8 years old at the time. And little did he know that that story would grow to be his first novel, Rise of the shadow Seekers. The First Seeker. Before he could finish the rough draft, personal problems arose within the family and the computer along with the only copy of Rise of the Shadow Seekers, The First Seeker went missing, along with his desire to write. It wasn’t until 5 years later after meeting his current wife who is a writer I’m her own right who had come into work with a printed copy of her book. Korey couldn’t believe it. Here was a girl he knew with a published book. He bought a copy right away and got her autograph.

Korey and his future wife, Hazel would discuss writing and books as much as possible anytime they would come in contact with one another. It was during this time that she explained to him what self-publishing was and how to get into to it. Amazed that you could even do such a thing, it ignited the fire and passion within him to start writing again, and like a calling a destiny Korey’s computer showed up one day, broken but he was able to pull his half-finished Rise of the Shadow Seeker, The First seeker manuscript from the broken computer and began to work on it. A year later with the support of Hazel, now his wife, published he published his first book.

After the promotion of Rise of the Shadow Seeker with a book a mini book tour online interviews and signings, it was time for Korey to start writing his second book. The problem was that Rise of the Shadow Seekers was meant for his 8 year old daughter who was now a teenager and he had grown as a writer himself. Korey being a fan of Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Joe Hill, he wanted to write for a more adult audience, so he wrote Strawberry Sorbet a detective Noir with adult themes.

Not wanting to confuse his Younger readers, he released the book under a the pen name, Landon Wake, Landon being his legal middle name ,and Wake, being the first two letters of his last name and the first and fourth letters of his first name. After receiving a 5 star review from Reader’s Favorite and much acclaim on amazon, Korey realized how comfortable he was writing more adult themed stories, so he published his second novel GPS: Murder Next Exit where he pulled no punches, on the adult themes.
